What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is a daily word puzzle game from The New York Times that challenges players to find hidden connections between 16 words. Created by associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu, it has become one of the most popular word games since its launch in 2023.
Each puzzle presents 16 words that must be sorted into 4 groups of 4 words each. The groups are color-coded by difficulty:
- 🟨 Yellow = Easiest category
- 🟩 Green = Easy-medium difficulty
- 🟦 Blue = Medium-hard difficulty
- 🟪 Purple = Hardest (often tricky wordplay)

The yellow category is always the easiest. Look for obvious groupings like "Types of Fruit" or "Car Brands" first.
⚠️ Watch for Traps
Some words fit multiple categories. "Mercury" could be a planet, element, or car brand. Consider all possibilities.
🟪 Purple is Tricky
The purple category often involves wordplay, puns, or less obvious connections like "Words that follow 'FIRE'" or "_____ King".
🔄 Process of Elimination
Once you solve easier groups, the remaining words become clearer. Save your guesses for when you're confident.
